ALL ABOUT BROOKE BOSLEY
I am a user researcher and hold an affiliate professorship position in the Human-Centered Design and Engineering Program at the University of Washington.
As an interdisciplinary researcher several things have been critical in my scholarship. They include the importance of co-designing alongside marginalized communities to mitigate implications and harms from technology. Second, the importance of researching issues related to race, gender, class, and ethics in AI. If we do not build AI tools that address these societal implications we will reinforce harm and continue to build utopian futures that center whiteness. Lastly, my experience in academia and the AI industry informs my teaching and research practices, allowing me to help shape the next generation of research and design practitioners. I have published across interdisciplinary venues like ACM Designing Interactive Systems, Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, and Femspec. My current work on a book chapter sets the stage for larger collaborative efforts around AI Afrofuturism.
My Seattle, WA community inspires my writing from walks around Lake Washington to powerlifting with my team in Rainier Beach. I facilitate a monthly BlackFutures Book Club at Langston Performing Arts Center in the Central District. Serve onthe Seattle Black Nerd Festival Advisory Committee, and member of Zeta Phi Beta, Sorority Inc.
